Montreal August 2026

Montreal

I spent a weekend in Montreal in August, and was able to see at least a few of the sights.

Architecture

The Ring at Place Ville Marie, framing the view along McGill College Avenue.

The large circular sculpture at Place Ville Marie frames McGill College Avenue, downtown towers, and Mount Royal in the distance.

McGill University, with the Arts Building at the end of the tree-lined walkway.

McGill University's stone Arts Building and green cupola beyond a patterned plaza, leafy trees, and a central walkway.

Montreal City Hall, seen from Rue Notre-Dame.

The ornate stone facade, steep roof, and clock tower of Montreal City Hall beneath a blue sky.

City Hall from Champ-de-Mars, showing the rear facade across the lawn.

The rear of Montreal City Hall, with a green roof and rows of windows, viewed across the grass and paths of Champ-de-Mars.

Habitat 67, viewed across the water from the Old Port.

The stacked concrete apartments and terraces of Habitat 67 across the water, with boats and a quay in front.

Montreal’s skyline from Mount Royal, in the evening light.

Montreal's downtown towers in warm evening light, seen above the green trees on Mount Royal.

Churches

Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral, looking down the central aisle toward the altar.

The central aisle of Mary, Queen of the World Cathedral, lined with wooden pews and tall columns beneath an ornate coffered ceiling.

Notre-Dame Basilica, with its blue vaulted ceiling and richly decorated sanctuary.

Notre-Dame Basilica's blue ceiling dotted with gold stars above carved galleries, wooden pews, and an illuminated blue-and-gold sanctuary.

Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel, with model ships suspended from the painted ceiling.

Model sailing ships and chandeliers hang above the pews in Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel, beside stained-glass windows and a painted vaulted ceiling.
